Gift Guide for Architects

As we are nearing the end of 2021, here are some last minute gift ideas. This guide is perfect for any architect in your life - or a special something for yourself to celebrate another successful year!

Below are some of my favorite items right now, everything from coffee table books to houseplants. Happy holidays!

Coffee Table Book

The Case Study coffee table book is a perfect book for the residential architect in your life. The famous Case Study houses were housing prototypes developed by famous architects to address residential living in the midcentury. It was a unique approach to understanding how architects can design and build better homes, that is still to this day revered. This book looks at all the case studies designed for the project.

Eames House Bird

Because everyone needs a Charles and Ray Eames wooden crow sculpture! The authentic bird, sold by Vitra, is made of solid wood with 2 metal "feet". It is designed to perfectly balance on the tail and feet.

The Art Book

The Art Book is a great coffee table book for any artist. It contains artists from A-Z throughout history and is a great way to work on your art knowledge while you're relaxing on the sofa.

Jonathan Adler Muse d'Or Candle

Jonathan Adler makes incredible vases that are sculptural and add the perfect architectural touch to any home. The Muse d'Or candle is a great way to bring in the look, feel, AND smell of his pieces. It comes in gold or white, so it can fit any interior style.

Spark Joy by Marie Kondo

The new year is a great time to start a new book on organizing and decluttering. Spark Joy is the perfect way to get inspired. The architect in your life will appreciate the principles and techniques demonstrated in this book and can inspire them in their designs.

Audible is a great way to listen to it too!

Pen Set + Sketchbook

This Staedtler full professional 12 piece drafting set has every size pen you need to perfect your sketches. Pair this with a classic Moleskin notebook and any architect or architect-in-training will be excited!

Houseplant + Hanging Planter

This ceramic hanging planter is a beautiful when combined with a Maranta or Pothos plant. You can find these at your local nursery. Both are great indoor plants that help indoor air quality, they're easy for anyone to keep alive, and they're beautiful!

2022 is going to be all about green and bringing nature inside, so this is a great way to start.

Standing Planter + Snake Plant

To continue with the theme of bringing the outside in, there is always room for a standing planter and a snake plant in someone's house! Snake plants are another super easy plant to keep alive (I've even brought one back from the dead!) and they help create great indoor air quality.

LEGO Architecture

Years ago I received the Glass House LEGO architecture set for Christmas. I loved it! I enjoyed having a mini architectural masterpiece on my desk and I loved the nostalgia of building LEGOs. When I went on Amazon to find the link for this post, I saw it was discontinued and now on sale for 399.99! Needless to say, my daughter has a very expensive set of LEGOs in her playroom now! Oh well...

BUT, while the famous single famous residential sets are now discontinued, they do still have some great architecture options. I love this one of New York City.

If you're buying for someone 12 or 62, if they like architecture they will like this set, guaranteed!
