The Upcoming Recession! How you can prepare today…
A topic like a recession isn't the most exciting topic to discuss, but one that is important. Whether we’re in a recession, about to be in one, or about to recover from one, putting together an action plan is the best way to not let a recession turn your whole world upside down.
Everything changed in 2020, and we are just beginning to recover from all the damage. Things are starting to get absurdly expensive due to the increasing interest rates and the price hikes in everything. Unfortunately, the world of architecture, construction, and residential business are one of those industries that are greatly affected in economically trying times.
Although I may not be an economist, one thing I know for sure is that everything is cyclical. Including the ebb and flow of the economy. Even though we know that recessions don't last forever, it's best to face them head-on by planning, preparing, and keeping an open mind. It’s all about reframing your view and realizing the potential in the hard times. Rise above the situation and think outside the box, and I’m sure you can accomplish incredible things!
In this episode, I talk about being an architect or a design professional in these times of struggle and uncertainty. In addition, I shed light on the four things you can do to prepare for a possible recession and how to adapt your perception.
1. Have multiple streams of income
Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket! If you have diverse ways to make money, you'll always have something to fall back on if one way sadly doesn't work out.
2. Monetize your hobbies
Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could do something you already love AND make money from it? Why not try monetizing your hobbies? The best part about this idea is it won’t feel like extra work at all!
3. Get into the digital space
We’re so lucky to be living in a world where we can easily create content and earn extra cash from it. Whether it’s selling affiliate links, posting videos, or even teaching people through courses, there are so many possible ways to monetize your hobbies and talents.
In our field of work, we mainly work in the service industry, and we're often at the helm of our clients. Unfortunately, it suffers significant dips during a recession and encounters many fluctuations. Lucky for us, as artists, we have the gift of our creativity, and it’s something we can tap into to find a creative way to monetize it.
4. Get licensed!
Getting your license will open up so many doors for you and give you more freedom and flexibility. You'll have a leg up on other candidates and prospects, and you could even start your own firm. You never know what the future has in store for you and having your license is always worth it!
Opportunity
In a recession, it's normal to feel a lot of fear, but there is a lot of hope and opportunities, too. People who see opportunities and use them to their advantage always come out on top. Even though it may be hard, let's try our best to live in the present, make plans, and get ready, and not let the talk of a possible recession scare us. As I like to say, “If you’re living in the present, you’re not able to worry because worrying is thinking about the past or the fear of the future.”
Hopefully, this was helpful and provided some value in how you can create a fun and secure future for yourself, recession or not. Please reach out and let me know if you’re creating a plan. I love to hear from you!
